We have been using Berkey Filters for our drinking & cooking water for the last few months and LOVE it. Not only does it remove harmful chemicals from tap water but it’s helping to reduce our plastic usage because we now officially ditched plastic water bottles. Woo hoo!! The Berkey provides us with pure & delicious water, all while helping the environment & saving us money we would have spent on bottled water.
Here are some interesting facts I found on bottled water:
*Many people think drinking bottled water is of higher quality but that’s not necessarily true. In the US, 24% of bottled water sold is either Aquafina or Dasani. Both brands are bottled, purified municipal water.
*Last year the average American used 167 disposable water bottles but only recycled 38.
*Making bottles uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year!
* The energy we waste using bottled water would be enough to power 190,000 homes.
*In the US, public water is regulated by the EPA which requires multiple daily tests for bacteria and makes results visible to the public. The FDA, which regulates bottled water, only requires weekly testing and does not share its findings with the EPA or public.
* 80% of the water bottles we buy end up in landfills — that absolute worst place for them to be.
*Plastic bottles are not only bad for the planet, but they are not good for YOU. Although many bottled water companies are now using BPA-free plastic, there are still many other chemicals that can seep out..especially when exposed to heat. Many of these chemicals are said to be endocrine disrupters and may be linked to numerous chronic diseases. Why take the risk?
Definitely check out @berkey_filters website for more info on why they are the world leader in portable water purification.
I’ve been using this shampoo for the last few days and I absolutely love it for my hair (FYI: there’s a conditioner too along with other beauty products but I only purchased the shampoo. conditioner doesn’t work well in my hair). Anyhow, not only does this company (@plaineproducts) pass the #vegan#crueltyfree & #natural ingredients test; BUT they are extremely #ecofriendly because you are able to send back your bottle to be reused once you are finished!
Did you know: Americans discard more than 30 million tons of plastic a year. Only 8 percent of that gets recycled.
I am determined to cut back on my plastic use and waste. I realize this process will take time, but companies like this one help to make this change possible! Cheers to that!
Here’s how it works:
*Order one product and it arrives to you in a refillable bottle and a reusable pump. Hold on to your shipping box and the extra lid!
*Purchase a refill when your bottle is low. Save the refill box, keep the lids and label inside.
*When your current bottle is empty, rinse it out and switch the pump to the refill bottle.
Using the box it originally came in, put the refill’s lid on your empty bottle and using the return label, send back! You can set it out for your postal carrier to pick up just like any other letter. It’s FREE to ship back!
